After two months of soul searching, some time in Central America, and a few nervous breakdowns caused by my upcoming wedding preparation, I decided to take refuge in a job I have grown to love: Community Management.
One of the things I love about being a Community Manager is that unless working in some type of Web 2.0 setting, the average cocktail party attendee will not have the slightest clue on what a Community Manager does, and thus a lengthy conversation begins.
Thankfully by now, I have my answer prepared: an online community is like any other community—an interactive group of people joined together by a common interest. Whether it be technology, fashion or traveling. It’s also one of the most effective vehicles a company can utilize for customer retention, market research and viral marketing.
I’ll be looking out for some of my favorite communities out there, and will be sure to blog about them here.
